Locations
Taormina (Messina):
Taormina is the most important tourist destination in Sicily. The old town
centre of this pearl of the Mediterranean sea, is situated at about 200 m. a.s.l.,
in a fabulous position overlooking the Ionian sea, right opposite Mt. Etna,
offering one of the most beautiful views in the world. This resort has being fascinated over the centuries
tourists and visitors from all over the world who have chosen to plunge themselves
into its wonderful atmosphere made of natural and cultural attractions, with
a mild weather all over the year as on an eternal spring. The Greek-Roman
theatre, seat of important international events and second for dimensions to Syracuse’s Greek theatre, Palazzo Corvaja,
the “Naumachie”, the Palece
of the Dukes of Santo Stefano and dozen of other attractions make Taormina
a destination not to be missed.
Taormina’s wonderful sea, the “Isola Bella”, the beaches of Mazzeo,
Spisone and Mazzarò can
be easily accessible from the city centre by a modern cableway that is opened
until late in the night.
Portorosa (Messina):
Situated between cape
Tindari
and Cape Milazzo, facing the enchanting Aeolian islands, in a large
equipped area surrounded by the green of vegetation. This is the ideal
setting for people loving amusement but also relax. Portorosa’s
port has many berths and
the following services: towing, storage, bunkering.
Siracusa: Seaside city, stretching
to the sea with the island
of Ortigia,
Syracuse
lies along a harmonious bay. Its name not only immediately evokes its Greek
past time, the tyrants,
the rivalry between Athens and Carthage, a time which is still
exemplified by the presence of many monuments, but also reminds
a less known period of its history that is not less
interesting, and that can
be revived by walking along
the narrow old streets of
the island, where time seems to be
suspended between Middle Ages and Baroque. Just behind Ortigia, there is
Acradina quarter,
a flat area so called during the Greek classical age. And Neapolis, the “new city”, with the theatre, Dionysus’s ear, and the
“Latomie del Paradiso” (the “Paradise Quarries) that are the most interesting; eastwards Tyche, a quarter reminding the presence of a temple dedicated to the goddess of Fortune (from the Greek “tyche” that means
“fortune “, “chance”). It dominates
and overlooks the “Epipoli”,
guarded and protected by the Eurialo castle, in a high and strategic
position.
Trapani: The town stretches towards the Mediterranean sea, with its
typical “sickle” shape, at the extremity of which stands the imposing Ligny Tower, built in 1761. The salt pans
are very particular
with their sea salt production that gave life to the “Salt Route”. Among the most outstanding monuments, the “Giudecca” Palace, St. Lawrence’s Cathedral
and, by the sea, the
“Colombaia”s Castle
