TREKKING
ASPROMONTE – Eolian Islands

A suggestive itinerary
that will make you discover the peaks of Aspromonte’s
massif.
Steep cliffs that surround narrow and picturesque
valleys, animated by impetuous streams that during the the
trip, collect the waters of fascinating waterfalls.
Huge woods that constitute one of the greatest
natural assets of Aspromonte with a vegetation that includes all plants typical of the
Mediterranean basin.
From the mountains to the mythological sea of the Aeolian islands, surrounded by landscapes of enchanting
beauty, fascinated by the colors and scents of our land to discover
surprisingly active volcanoes.
 
Program
Day1:
Arrival in Reggio Calabria, meeting with the tour guide and presentation of
the travel plan. Lodging in hotel, dinner and
overnight.
Day2:
Departure towards the refuge “Il Biancospino”
( “The Whitethorn”), hiking on Mount Montalto (1956 m.), Aspromonte’s highest peak, where you can admire the
picturesque scenery of the Strait of Messina and the magnificent Aeolian
islands. Back to the refuge, dinner and overnight stay (6 hours walking).
Day3:
Trip to Garibaldi’s Mausoleum, through the
picturesque Sentiero Rosso
( Red Path), crossing pine and beech woods that alternate with typical glades
where, on summer, green
ferns and yellow brooms dominate. Along the way, you can admire many streams
and springs. You will arrive, near Serra Petrulli, in a wood where the soldiers of Piemonte’s
army injured Garibaldi, and where today the Mausoleum keeps some relics
recalling the hero. Dinner and
overnight at the refuge (5 h. walking).
Day4:
Crossing the Strait
of Messina, transfer to
Milazzo. Boarding to Stromboli. In the afternoon, ascent to the
volcano with a volcano’s expert guide. Watching of the volcanic activity in
one of the most famous volcanoes in the world. Dinner at a restaurant. Night
at the hotel.
N.B.:
Access to the trails is subject to regulations set by the Civil Defence, which can vary according the volcano’s state and
still provides accompaniment by the guides authorized to the access to the
higher zones.
Day5:
Boarding to Vulcano,
ascent to the Cratere della
Fossa that will surprise you with its fumaroles and
sulphur crystals, offering a spectacular
view. Dinner at restaurant and overnight at the hotel. (3 h. walking).
Day6:
Transfer by hydrofoil to Salina,
the green island with its twin cones, known for the Malvasia.
Ascent to Mount
Fossa
delle Felci (961 m.), a nature reserve
on the island.. In the late afternoon, return by
hydrofoil to Vulcano. Dinner at the restaurant and
night in a hotel.
Day7:
Boarding to Milazzo, transfer to Messina, visit of the city. Dinner and
overnight at the hotel.
Day8:
Transfer
to Reggio Calabria
Airport.
Caution
The itinerary can vary according to weather and volcanic conditions.

Luggage:
by bus/hydrofoil. Bring with you only the necessary
equipment for the day.
Climate:
high temperature (30° C) – Temperate or cold in Aspromonte.
Lodging:
Hotel ( two and three-bed rooms) – Refuge.
Meals:
breakfast and dinner at restaurant – Pocket-lunch.
