TREKKING
NEBRODI - MADONIE (
8 days - cod.04 )
“An island inside the island” as the Arabs defined
the Nebrodi’s mountains. The reason why will soon
be clear to visitors who start to discover this surprising land: rich in
woods, high altitude green pastures, silent lakes and flowing streams.
Primordial oasis in Sicily,
once covered with forests,
Nebrodi nature park still keeps this
archaic feature in its beech, chestnuts and oaks’ woods which, at this
altitude and thanks to a cold and damp climate, find the most suitable
environment to reproduce themselves and perpetuate.
The flora is the protagonist of the Madonie’s park. This botanical paradise with its peaks
reaching a height of 1979 m.,
houses more than a half of the 2600 species present in Sicily and about 150 of the 200 endemic
species.
The fauna is characterized by the 65% of birds and by all mammals living in Sicily.
Discovering enchanting places, between nature and
culture, with unspoiled natural landscapes, preserved by the Park’s institution ,the attractions of Cefalù
and Palermo
will conclude this wonderful tour.
Program
Day1:
Arrival and meeting with the tour guide and
presentation of the tour’s plan. Stay at
the hotel in Catania.
Free time to visit the town. Free dinner, overnight at the hotel.
Day2:
Nebrodi’s
Nature Park.
Transfer to Floresta.
Excursion to Mt. Pisciotto alpine lakes ( 1500 m.
a.s.l., Sicily’s highest lakes) and “Tre Arie”. Arrival at “Portella Bazzana” ( 979 m.). Dinner and
overnight. (6 hours trekking).
Day3:
Nebrodi’s
Nature Park.
Excursion from “Portella Bazzana”, visit of the small village of Longi. Visit of “Catafalco” falls (Galati Mamertino), of the alpine lakes and of the mountain’s
rivers. In the evening, return to Portella Bazzana. Dinner and overnight. (4 hours trekking).
Day4:
Excursion to Alcara Li Fusi and to San Marco D’Alunzio. Visit
of the “Rocche del Crasto”
( 1315 m.),
imposing rock formations of limestone nature from where we have the
possibility to watch some exemplars of griffon vultures (Gyps Fulvus).
Dinner and overnight. (5 hours trekking).
Day5:
Transfer to Sant’Agata di Militello, then by train to Cefalù (1h30). Visit
of the old town centre and of the Norman Cathedral. Transfer to The Mountains
of the Madonie’s Park. (I h). Lodging at the
refuge/hotel of the Club Alpino Italiano
(Italian Alpin Club). Dinner and overnight.
Day6:
The Madonie’s Park.
Excursion to Mt. “Pizzo Carbonara” (mt.1979), the park’s highest peak with its
wonderful panoramic views. Dinner and overnight.
Day7:
The Madonie’s Park.
Excursion to Mt. Dei Cervi (1794 m.). In
the afternoon, transfer to Castelbuono railway
station and then continuation to Palermo.
(1h20).
Lodging at the hotel, free time to visit the city.
Dinner and overnight.
Day8:
Transfer
to Palermo Airport
Caution
The tour’s itinerary can be modified according to weather
conditions.
